Not every song that stops and grabs me does this when I am working in the house. Sometimes this happens when I am listening to the radio in my car. There have been times when I heard such a song in the car and arrived at my destination, but stayed in the car, listening through several subsequent songs, hoping to hear after the set the name of the artist and the song title so that I could buy the song, or the album. This song by Toni Braxton was one of those "in the car" songs and I had to keep repeating in my head her name as I continued to drive, hoping I wouldn't forget it until I could write it down. I had not previously been much aware of Toni Braxton. Unlike much of the other Especially Wonderful Songs that have been classics from a generation or two ago, this song was contemporary.
The very first notes grabbed me, what can I say, it was so beautiful, but then her voice made it even better, she was singing with such emotion and expressed a pain that made it seem hard for her to fully speak of her sorrow, yet she did with full authority. How many songs have there been about the miseries of loving somebody and they stopped loving you--countless songs--and yet, here was another, amazing one. It's a theme that eternally hits the heart, yet each subsequent song of that theme must require phenomenal talent to create.
Continuing to keep alive in a piece of your heart your love for a person who stopped loving you must be an action of holiness. The more love you keep, the more love you have.
