We're winding down toward the end of this month of LockDown. I think we all are more than sick, of it at this point for numerous understandable reasons. Regarding finding musical moments that can for a time take us away from the closed-in walls or the worries over economics and increasing tyranny, I have presented various songs from various genres of music. Now here with today's offering, I am presenting something a little different, but which I nevertheless think is very good.
The first time I had ever heard of Pogo (that's his professional name, his real name is Nick Bertke), was a friend of mine sent me a video called Upular, that was Pogo's "remix" of the Pixar movie, Up, which consisted of song that Pogo had sampled from various sources, mainly from movies, television, and video games, mixed together to make a new song. Sometimes Pogo mixes in visuals to make the work into a video, other times fans of Pogo's will mix in their own view of the visuals, there may end be several versions of the visuals, and other songs remain as songs.
While originally the core of Pogo's work seemed to be remixing Disney cartoons, and then other films, at this point his work spans very broadly, anywhere from songs from other cultures to even wonderful advertisements that are themselves enjoyable to listen to. Every bit of it is is well-worth exploring. You will notice that if you watch a Pogo video on YouTube, other Pogo videos will then pop up alluringly on the side, and the more you watch, the more pop up. You can also listen to him on SoundCloud, and find his work on several music vendor sites on-line.
It took only two hearings of the song, Upular, for me to grasp ahold of this method of music making and to become a huge fan of Pogo's work. At this point, I believe I have everything he has ever made, which goes past a hundred different songs, maybe more.
I could hardly think of a bad Pogo track, but the one I have included here is probably the sweetest one.
